I am having the same problem trying to download a hundred or so updates to WIndows 7 - I keep receiving the same error code - 80246008. ** 17 updates installed but "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 4 (KB2463332)" did not - back to where I was 2 weeks ago.

**Before this I used MSE and did a full virus scan using the last defs before updating stopped - all clear. Then I found a recent thread under XP / Windows Update "Missing BITS and WU after downloading XP SP3, tried Article ID: 883614 but no SP3 CD"
Tried running Windows Update again - same error. So not this I checked the Bits registry entry with regedit - seems to open up OK. On checking msconfig, only some of the changes were made, while some services seemed to go missingĪltogether, like my Toshiba HDD Protection, so I have abandoned this approach for now. I tried preparing for a Clean Boot using msconfig but when disabling non-Microsoft services and selecting OK, the system hung.
